Ecole Technique Gisenyi breaks ground to win Inter-Schools Swimming Competition

Ecole Technique Gisenyi swimming team (ESTG) yesterday, showed that they are capable of growing their profiles in the sport-all they need is better preparation and opportunities to showcase their talent.

The 6th edition of Inter-School Swimming Competition attracted over 200 swimmers from 25 schools teams at Green Hills Academy. 

ESTG dominated the medal tally with 15 medals altogether in different age categories with 5 gold, seven silver, and four bronze.ESTG’s Cedrick Niyibizi was the hero of the day after winning gold in the boy's freestyle 200m category for contestants aged 14-18 years followed by school mate Kevin Niyitanga with silver.

Defending champions Green Hills Academy finished second with seven medals including two gold medals, two silver, and three bronze medals.  Ecole Belge de Kigali was third with four medals, two gold both in breaststroke and freestyle girls 50meters, and silver in girls breaststroke 50meters contest.

Other schools which scooped medals were: Good Foundation, APE Rugunga, Kigali International School, Rwimbogo primary, Nyamata High, Lycee de Kigali, Group Scholar Butaree and Kigali International Community School.  

In his speech during the award ceremony, Samuel Kinimba Ufitimana national swimming president who was amused with the turn-up thanked the participants, schools, parents, and partners like Thousand Kilo women’s swimming club, management of Green Hills, the Ministry of Sports and Culture as well as others for making the event a success.
“We need to involve and make a follow up on these talented children,’ he said adding, “This can be done by you the parents and schools,” 

He went on to urge the participants to join the different clubs in their respective locations. All participants received certificates as recognition.
